Vray Custom Lights in 3DS Max 2014

Custom Vray softboxes, can it be?.. Yes it can

Creating your own softbox can give you that unique look and since it’s so easy, why not make one… or two? If you need tips on where to position your lights or what type of softboxes you can make why not check out some real world studios? we are in the 3D world of things but it’s still pretty near accurate. And because of that we can actually copy real world scenarios.

  1. Awesome Johannes,
Thank you so much for the great quality of tutorials…and humor!:)

quick question, if you want to scale this for a studio setup for a larger study object.. say around 10mx20m and 5m high…any suggestion on how to scale the lights?

    Thanks again!

well, it could be done just manually, i did a quick light for ya with some controls in an attribute holder. If you click on the cylinder you see some control of the light intensity, color and size.

It’s far from perfect but it’s something, right 🙂

Have a look at it, use it, abuse it or just delete it 😛

      Download the file here

  2. Great tuts man! So useful for noobs like me. Even for some things like you just used a soft selection to make that concave on the softbox. Nice to know things like that.

    Thanks!
